This Saturday was another memorable day in our stay in Ireland, where the kids are making the most of every moment to learn and have fun. Now that we’re halfway through the trip, they’re feeling more and more familiar with the local surroundings and culture.
As with every Saturday, we started the day with our English class. It’s not only a learning space, but also a place where they interact and challenge themselves to communicate in English, improving their skills day by day. It’s amazing to see how much confidence they’ve gained in their pronunciation and understanding, and their enthusiasm for learning is contagious. After class, we had our much-awaited “lunch break,” a time for everyone to relax, share laughs, and talk about the week. Besides having a snack, this break gives them a chance to chat with each other and recharge for the next activity.
With full stomachs and high spirits, we decided to get some exercise. And what better way than with a soccer game! Even though we didn’t have an official field, the space in front of the school became our playing ground. The kids played by passing and keeping possession, focusing more on enjoying the sport and each other’s company than on competition. They practiced teamwork by passing the ball and finding creative ways to move together as a group. It was a great chance for each kid to show their skills, agility, and especially their ability to work as a team and encourage each other. Though it wasn’t a “formal” game, everyone was focused and enjoying every moment.
The best part of the day came afterward: a photo scavenger hunt. The kids turned into explorers and photographers, with the mission to find and capture a list of specific objects and scenes around town. Divided into small teams, they received a list of photos to take. The targets included typical items like an old door or a picturesque house, as well as nature details like a fallen leaf or an interesting rock.
The scavenger hunt encouraged them to look at their surroundings with fresh eyes, searching each corner for something special or curious to capture. Each team came up with its own strategy: some focused on one area, while others covered a wider space. This exploration exercise strengthened their sense of observation and motivated them to work together to complete the list.
Along the way, the kids also took the opportunity to ask locals about some of the items on the list. This interaction not only helped them learn more about the town’s history but also gave them a chance to practice their English in a spontaneous way. They were excited to talk to people from the town and get tips or recommendations on where they might find what they were looking for.
Before heading to the park, we made a quick stop at the local supermarket, where the kids bought some sweets and drinks to enjoy in the afternoon. It was a fun moment where they picked out their favorite snacks and practiced their English while making their purchases.
With their photo list complete, we went to the town park, where a final surprise awaited them. Among all the playground equipment, what caught their attention the most was a big spinning wheel. This wheel became the main attraction of the afternoon. The kids took turns getting on and spinning, challenging each other to see who could last the longest without getting dizzy. Laughter filled the air, and you could feel the joy as they enjoyed the moment without a care in the world.
This Saturday was, without a doubt, one of those days the kids will remember for a long time. Now that we’ve passed the halfway point of our stay in Ireland, they’re enjoying this experience more every day. Beyond the English classes, every activity and moment together strengthens their friendships and leaves unforgettable memories. Each day they’re learning not only from books and lessons but also from spending time together, observing, and enjoying their surroundings. This stay is giving them more than academic knowledge; it’s giving them a life experience that will help them grow, appreciate new cultures, and develop skills they’ll use in the future.
No doubt, next Saturday we’ll be ready for another day full of activities and special moments. We love seeing the kids enjoying every second and making the most of this adventure in Ireland!
