Another Saturday has come and gone—and time is truly flying by here in Ireland! As always, we met punctually at the Old School in Carrigallen for a quick English class to start the day. This wasn’t just any Saturday, however—it was finally time for our much-anticipated trip to Dublin, the Irish capital, and the excitement among the students was palpable.
During the English class, the girls worked in small groups to prepare posters and short presentations, which they then presented to their classmates. After a quick snack, it was time to board the bus and set off on our journey to the big city.
The drive to Dublin took about two hours. As we travelled, we were met with mixed feelings—excitement for what awaited us, and a bit of concern as the rain outside grew heavier. To be safe, we decided to enjoy our packed lunches on the bus, just in case the weather didn’t allow us to stop later. Fortunately, by the time we arrived near Trinity College, the rain had cleared, giving way to the perfect conditions for a walking tour of the city.
Our first stop was Trinity College, one of Ireland’s most prestigious universities. Our English teacher showed us where the Book of Kells is housed, and we spent some time exploring the surroundings of the campus.
Next, we made our way to the vibrant Temple Bar district, where the girls took photos, enjoyed the lively atmosphere, and treated themselves to ice cream—which they carried with them as we continued on to Dublin Castle. There, we admired the medieval tower and walked through the historic courtyard.
Before heading to Grafton Street, we made a brief but much-enjoyed stop at Carroll’s, one of Dublin’s most iconic Irish gift shops. The girls had fun browsing through souvenirs and typical Irish items to bring back home as keepsakes of their adventure.
The final part of our afternoon took us through Grafton Street and St. Stephen’s Green, two of Dublin’s most popular shopping and cultural areas. We paused to listen to Allie Sherlock, a young street artist known for her live performances, as she sang to a crowd gathered around her. After a brief stop inside the Stephen’s Green Shopping Centre, it was time to return to Trinity College, where our bus was waiting to take us back to Carrigallen.
Back home, the girls returned to their host families full of stories, memories, and the joy of having spent the day exploring Ireland’s capital.
Warm regards, and see you again next Saturday!
